Meet the Players
Adam Bell - U18s & 1st Team - Left , Winger / Centre Forward.
After excellent performances at U18 level "Belly" was promoted to the first team to enhance his development. He scored his first goals for the club against Stillington in the DFA Minor Trophy, his second a fantastic strike from the 35 yards. He has a very bright future ahea of him and we hope he can continue his development at both U18 level and also with the first team. He has adapted to senior football very well so far.
Aaron Kah - 1st Team - Right MIdfielder
"Azza" Signed from sunday league football team the Jolly Steward, a key player in the clubs second division promotion winning season, he has blistering pace and has a habit of scoring goals in spells. Has occasionally fitted into centre midfield and still has age on his side. Brother of centre forward Tijan Kah and always one of the first on the teamsheet.
Alex Chapman - U18s & 1st Team, Centre Midfielder
New addition to the club, impressed for the U18 team with a very good performance in the middle of the park against the reserves. 1st team management also signed him on and he will be hoping to continue developing at both U18 and senior level. Could prove to be a key player for Ian and Kevs U18 team.
Carl Rutherford - 1st Team, Defence
Strong tackling centre half who has experience at Northern Alliance with Rutherford. Also he featured for Jarrow FC. A season ticket prevents him from regular appearances but makes such a difference when he does play, very calm with excellent aerial ability.
Davy Birch - U18s & 1st Team, Right Midfield
Younger brother of veteran 1st teamer Wayne McCamley and current captain of the U18s. Very committed player who also has a bright future ahead of him. Featured for the first team and has done well when called upon. Leader of his U18 team with man of the match performaces and important goals. He is learning his trade from winger Aaron Kah.
Dominic Mossa - 1st Team, Winger, Striker
Versatile and lightning quick winger who also has an eye for goal while leading the front line. Another who has played at Northern Alliance level with Rutherford and wearside league experience with East Durham and Harton and Westoe. Has become a key player for the first team. Can beat a man with ease and has a great partnership with Jack Lawton.
Lee Compton - 1st Team Captain, Defender
Tough tackling experienced centre half, played at Unibond level with Bishop Auckland. Authoritive and excellent at reading the game. Singed at the start of 09-10 season and due to work commitments appearances have been limited.
Mark Davies - 1st Team, MIdfielder
Signed from sunday league football and has been one of Shields most important signings, extremely fit and creative combative midfielder who chips in with a goal every season. Key player for the first team and his professionalism is a key factor for the youngsters learning from him in the squad.
Michael Pittuck - 1st Team, Midfielder and Defender
Missed the start of 09-10 season with serious knee injury but his versatility makes him key to the squad. Can play at right back but most comfortable in the middle of the park, likes a tough tackle and has a habit of scoring 20 yarders. Very fit player who is vocal and adds a different dimension to the team when he plays.
Gary Newbrook - 1st Team, Midfielder
Was at Sunderland as a youngster and his biggest claim is he played against Wayne Rooney as a youngster. The most creative footballer at the club and some things he does, only he could. Has had a bit start season but is sure to become a key player in the first teams midfield. Free kick expert, younger brother of goalkeeper Shaun.
Gary Spottiswood - 1st Team Winger, Midfielder, Striker
"Spotty" has been an ever present since the club was formed, he has been at the club through the good and the bad times. Key to the promotion winning squad and again his versatilty makes him a vital cog in the team. Doesnt score as many as he would like but when he plays United very rarely lose.
Jonny Gage - 1st Team Centre Back
Signed from East Boldon and has experience at this level with Rutherford AFC. Tough, strong old fashioned tackling centre half, loves to get forward and has scored a couple of key goals already this season. Unfortunately he has been the scapegoat of some refereeing decisions and he has missed a key part of the season with suspensions. When hes fit and available he normally features.
Nathan Readman - 1st Team and U18s - Striker
Up and coming striker who is new to the club, his performances for the U18s have been watched by the 1st team management and he will be hopeful of following players like David Birch and Adam Bell into the first team.
Shaun Newbrook - 1st Team Goalkeeper
Another one of the clubs key finds and vital players. An absolute ever present and his performances have caught the eye of some higher based teams but Shaun has rejected their advances. The clubs solid foundation and progression has been a result of Shauns heriocs in the sticks. The club will hope to retain Shaun for years to come as they hope to progress throgh the divisions.
Philly Enlund - 1st Team Winger, Striker
The veteran of the club and again an ever present, Philly was a vital cog in the promotion push of 2008-09, work and niggling injuries have prevented him from getting going this season and currently sidelined. Very tricky and creative left footer who has troubled full backs for the last two seasons.
Tijan Kah - 1st Team Striker
Lightning quick striker who has done well since joining from Sunday league, brother of Aaron and capable of scoring goals you dont expect, guilty of occasionally missing the odd sitter. Still young however and has a big future at United and the club will be hoping he can score the goals that will lift them further up the leagues.
Tony Fenwick - 1st Team Midfielder
Sheffield Wednesday youngster who has had a key part in stabilising the club in division one and helping the club form a sounds base to build upon. Available again after work commitments and will be hoping to reach double figures in appearance between now and the end of the season. Very touch tackling and can pick a great pass. Penalty expert and can also drop into the defence.
Wess Brown - 1st Team Assistant Player/Manager
Suffered a horrific injury at work and there is doubts whether he will play again. Joined Beanie as his number two for the start of the 2009-10 season having played at Northern League and Wearside level and has been a major influence on the first team so far. With Wess on board the club will be hoping to open up the trophy cabinet. |
